Air Conditioner & Heater Contractor Serving Sulphur, LA

Located to the west of Lake Charles, Louisiana, Sulphur is a community-oriented city with a unique history. Named after the sulfur mines that fueled the city’s early success, Sulphur is a family-friendly town that features an appealing array of parks, schools and sports facilities. With its local amenities and close proximity to regional cultural and natural attractions, it’s no wonder that Sulphur residents refer to their town as the “Pride of Southwest Louisiana.”

History

The Calcasieu Sulphur Mining Company began to mine sulfur in the region in 1870, but reaching the deep deposits proved to be costly and deadly. In 1890, German chemist Herman Frasch worked out a safer method, and in exchange for his expertise received a share of the mining company’s land. Sulphur was formally incorporated in 1914. During World War II, the city’s main source of income switched from sulfur to petroleum, and the oil industry is still Sulphur’s primary employer today. Housed in a railway depot built in 1915, the Brimstone Museum displays historical artifacts from Sulphur’s early days.
